Community Solar Continues to Grow in Wisconsin

The newest community solar project to come online in Wisconsin is also the state’s largest. The Eau Claire Energy Cooperative (ECEC) celebrated the opening of the 872 kW array earlier this week.

The project, completed by Able Energy Company, is also the third largest solar installation of any kind in the state.

There are a total of 13 community solar projects either completed or under construction in Wisconsin. Electric Cooperatives have completed six of these, which produce a combined total of over 1.5 MW of solar.

“Eau Claire Energy’s project makes a statement on solar energy that couldn’t be clearer,” said Tyler Huebner, executive director of RENEW Wisconsin, a renewable energy advocacy organization headquartered in Madison. “If you’re searching for a utility project that delivers clean energy and long-term savings to its subscribers while creating good-paying jobs with in-state businesses, you’ll find an excellent example in Fall Creek.”
