DOE to Begin Tracking Rooftop Solar Power


For the first time, the U.S. Department of Energy will forecast energy output from small-scale solar panel systems, like the ones installed on residential rooftops, the agency announced on Tuesday.

The Energy Department releases monthly energy forecasts that overview inventories of crude oil and natural gas and offer projections for energy and power use. Now, the forecast will include a rising source of power in the U.S.: rooftop solar.
