New York is in a solar state of mind. Earlier this week Governor Cuomo announced the impressive growth that reflects the success of his Reforming the Energy Vision strategy. In fact, this number represents twice the national rate of growth over the same period. The Reforming the Energy Vision strategy is a mission to build a clean, resilient, and affordable energy system for the residents of New York. A strong part of the strategy is the $1 billion NY-Sun Initiative.
As of December 2014, the total installed solar capacity in the state was over 314 MW. This represents solar capacity that has tripled, quadrupled, or quintupled in every region of the state except for one — Long Island — which has the most installations. The number of projects was at least doubled in every region as well.
“The Empire State is rapidly becoming a leader in clean energy technology, and that means greener and more sustainable communities for all New Yorkers,” Governor Cuomo said. “Through the $1 billion NY-Sun Initiative, we’re making solar a reality in virtually every corner of the state and building a brighter future today. I am proud to see New York pulling well ahead of the national average for the growing solar industry, and look forward to seeing that momentum continue in the years to come.”
