A win for the economy and a win for the environment. That’s the kind of legislation SEIA can get behind. The Solar Energy Industries Association has announced its support for HR 3001. The legislation — introduced by by Rep. Peter Welch (D-VT) — will allow the General Services Administration (GSA) to enter into 30-year renewable energy power purchase agreements (PPA).  At this time, the military is the only part of the federal government that can enter PPAs for longer than 10 years.

SEIA President and CEO Rhone Resch said, “This forward-looking legislation would allow all federal agencies to enjoy the significant cost benefits currently enjoyed by the U.S. military through the use of long-term PPAs. Rep. Welch should be applauded for his commitment to improving our environment, while helping to save significant money for American taxpayers. We strongly support this legislation.”

Last week was a big week for the environment in Washington. In addition to this legislation, the White House launched its solar initiative and Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) introduced his solar legislation.
