Solar PV at 2c/kW by 2050? It’s simply a matter of when, not if. But the head of one of the world’s leading research organizations warns that the biggest problem may be creating enough capacity to meet demand. 

Solar PV at 2c/kW by 2050? It’s simply a matter of when and by whom, not if, according to RenewEconomy.

 

The balance in the solar PV industry is shifting back from capacity exceeding demand. As that happens, Eicke Weber of the Fraunhofer Institute in Germany is concerned that cheap solar may be available to just 10% of the population. So he’s advocating PV 2.0, a plan to build a pan-European manufacturing capacity.

 

Weber says he has no doubt that the capacity will be built in the next few years; the only question is by whom.
