The Towns of Stafford and Chaplin are hosting free Solarize solar workshops to educate residents about how the towns’ Solarize programs are offering homeowners significantly discounted solar installations.

On Tuesday, December 3 the Town of Chaplin will host a “Solarize Hampton-Chaplin-Ashford-Pomfret” Solar Workshop. The solar workshop presentation will take place at 7 pm at the Chaplin Senior Center. On Wednesday, December 11 a Solarize Stafford workshop will take place at 7pm at the town community center.

The towns’ chosen installer, Ross Solar Group, will be present at both workshops to explain the program and the different financial options to purchase solar, including a no-money-down lease option. Local Solarize ambassadors will be on hand to answer questions and sign people up for a free site survey to see if their home is right for solar.

The towns of Chaplin, Hampton, Ashford, Pomfret, and Stafford, along with six other communities, have been selected to participate in Solarize Connecticut. The state-sponsored program through Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority combines coordinated town education and outreach efforts with a tiered pricing offer from a pre-selected installer to boost residential solar adoption. The more residents participate in the program, the more the price drops, with all residents receiving the lowest possible price for their installation no matter when they sign up for the program. In order to qualify, residents must sign a contract by January 28, 2014.

Stafford solar ambassador Gene Julian expressed his support for solar: “I love my solar array, my lease payment is less than what I used to pay for electricity and all my electricity comes from the sun, my solar panels have been installed for a little over four years and have worked flawlessly.”

Chaplin resident Ginny Walton commented: “Ross Solar already has 16 signed contracts for our Solarize coalition – way ahead of the other towns even though we have a much smaller population base, collectively, than any of the others. This is a fantastic start to our Solarize program. We are very pleased to bring this program making solar affordable to the residents or our towns and surrounding communities.”
