SunPower is dedicated to not only a clean energy future, but a sustainable future as well. The company is thoughtful about the materials used in its products, and has received Cradle to Cradle certification as a result.
This week, two additional product lines received the certification. The E-Series and X-Series Solar Panels manufactured in France are now Cradle to Cradle Silver Certified. Last year, when the company’s solar panels made in Mexico earned Cradle to Cradle certification, SunPower had the distinction of becoming the first and only solar company worldwide to received the certification.
With this latest addition, 75 percent of SunPower’s solar panels carry the certification. To earn the distinction, the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute reviews a product’s quality based on five categories: material health, material reutilization, renewable energy use, water stewardship, and social fairness.
Marty Neese, SunPower COO, said, “We are committed to making all of our solar panels more sustainable, in line with our dedicated focus to supporting the transition towards a circular economy that is restorative and regenerative by design.”
Bridget Luther, president of the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute, recognizes the work that SunPower has done in this arena. She says, “Environmental and social sustainability are at the core of SunPower’s business, affecting every design, manufacturing and sourcing decision the company makes.”
With innovation like this, the relationship between solar and sustainability will continue to grow.
