TXU Energy and SunPower have partnered to create a new residential solar program, TXU Solar from SunPower. The program builds on TXU Energy’s commitment to renewable energy in Texas.

TXU Energy has been offering rooftop solar options to North Texas residents since 2010.  It pays customers for the excess electricity they generate with their renewable energy systems. The utility also offers energy efficiency programs including monitoring and energy audits.

The new partnership with SunPower will combine the best of both worlds.

“For years, Texans have been able to rely on us to provide the information and tools they need to manage how much electricity they use,” said Scott Hudson, chief operating officer for TXU Energy. “TXU Solar from SunPower further empowers our customers to reduce the amount of electricity they buy and gives them yet another innovative choice to meet their electricity needs.”

TXU Solar from SunPower brings renewables and efficiency together by providing customers with a simple online and mobile monitoring system so homeowners can track their electricity production.

Howard Wenger, SunPower President, Business Units said, “SunPower is pleased to team up with TXU Energy to make high-efficiency and highly reliable solar power accessible to Texas families. … We look forward to welcoming more Texas homeowners to our more than 500,000 customers across the globe that are benefiting from SunPower’s industry-leading solar technology today.”

In addition to providing solar options to their customers, TXU Energy sponsors the TXU Energy Solar Academy. This is a National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project program which brings solar technology and energy lessons to local schools.

The schools receive a free 1 kW solar array. The web based system provides real-time data on electricity generation. Students can track the generation and teachers are provided tools to incorporate the findings into their lessons.

To date, approximately 600,000 students have benefited from the program.
