Western University of Health Sciences going solar

Washington Gas Energy Systems signs contract with Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California, to build, own, and operate a 674kW solar array.

Washington Gas Energy Systems has signed a contract with Western University of Health Sciences to build, own, and operate a 672kW solar installation. The electricity generated by the solar array will be sold under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) to the university in Pomona, California.

The installation will consist of a roof-mounted system of approximately 2,680 solar panels on three buildings on the campus, and a carport system with solar panels located at one of the parking areas on campus. The project, developed by Green Energy Group, will be completed in October 2013. Conergy engineered the project and will manage procurement and construction.

The installation is expected to generate 1,110MWh per year. Upon completion, the solar installation will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions equal to recycling more than 293 tons of waste, instead of sending it to a landfill, or taking approximately 163 passenger cars off the road for one year.
